Green with Envy: Caps 5, Flyers 4

"After slumbering through the opening 40 minutes, Ovechkin tore the roof off the Verizon Center, a sold-out rink that gives the Canadian arenas a run for their money where noise and excitement is concerned."

After the second period I was in a foul mood tonight. Huet finally bled, for one. I didn't fault him for the 3-on-2 - he had to consider a pass. Huet was interfered with on the Danielle's layup. How can he get over to play the puck if a Flyer is standing right in his crease?

Anyone notice Steckel's play tonight, especially in the last few minutes? Boy, I hope the Caps can do that every night (if necessary). People got their money's worth tonight.

And thanks, Versus, for the tennis update in the first period. You suck.

That game made my weekend.

I don't even think ESPN would have interrupted that game with Tennis. Thanks VS.

Time to continue celebrating.

Verizen Center was insane tonight! I wish I could sit through the game again. Amazing....

there's a bit of irony in Versus' play-by-play tonight being performed by the Hurricane's own John Forslund. he is a great announcer IMHO - but i wonder who he was pulling for :)

GO CAPS (and thank you George & Ted)

This noise is what you get when you have a fan base so thirsty for victory after wandering for a decade in the desert of broken dreams.

1 down. 15 more to go.

Holy cow, what a game. My fiancee is a Flyers fan, so she is kind of bummed, but she bought me a bright red Fedorov t-shirt (they didn't have Ovechkin in my size).

The Caps of 10 years ago were kind of dull to watch. The only suspense back then was to see whether the team could hold onto a slim lead as the clock ticked away. This is a different team entirely.

I think Theory of Ice put it best:

Ovechkin was irresistibly charismatic as a high-scoring rookie; as a nearly record-setting goal scorer, he’s like crack with an accent. Everyone’s hooked.

Amen. What a game. What a moment. Go Caps Go!

Some people were questioning me in the 2nd intermission, on the game and haircut. They weren't sure we could come back while down by 2. I told them to calm down and BELIEVE!
I thought that AO was trying to do everything, and he just needed to trust in his teammates and let it happen, don't force it...
OMG what a Fn 3rd that was.

Amazing comeback from the Cardiac Kids once again!

But, Man, that Flyer that took Mike Green's full-on slapshot blast in the nuts was brutal. I ALMOST felt bad when Greenie tied it up while he was down writhing in pain. Can't wish that on anyone.

@mostholy2 I felt the exact same thing - almost thought they should have blown the whistle for the poor bastard - then when the Caps score, he gets a psychological beating to go with a physical one.

Probably felt about the same to Lasse Kukkonen when #8 beat him - watching Lasse break his stick was a nice finish.

Let's face it, play the Caps this year and you are *going* to get hit in the nuts and scored on...

I just had a full-body cringe . . . from the National Post story:
"Flyers coach Paul Holmgren said that it is a possibility that Patrick Thoresen may have to have a testicle removed after he was injured blocking a shot."

OC, I figured as much when I heard he possibly would need surgery. I can only imagine how much pain that guy must be in right now.

"Tonight was the loudest it's ever been for me," Fedorov said. "It's like 60 minutes non-stop. I had a broken stick, and I couldn't hear it break because it was so loud."

Wow!!! I loved how the CAPS played in the third period. I am very happy that my 6 month son, dressed in his Captials uniform with pants, saw a victory while watching his first playoff game!

I don't think it was this loud at the Cap Centre when Hunter scored "The Goal"
Saw some old faces last night that I haven't seen in years. Welcome back.

One step in the right direction of exorcising demons from the past like Tim Kerr, Brian Propp, Ron Hextall, and that flaming untalented troll of a cheat Kjell Samuelsson. One big difference from '98 and other playoff years past is that the Caps have never have had as strong of a "game changer" as AO. Last goal proves that. 'Nuff said.

ok i'm very close to shutting up on this thread - sorry if this too much information but i just noticed this and it creeped me out a bit:

why did OFB add my nationalpost blurb to the body of their post *after* i posted? when i posted there was nothing but the subject line (very cool i must add) "Green with Envy...". i may sound like an idiot for other reasons, see above, but i didn't parrot back "their" quote, i posted it.

or did we find the same quote at the same time :-) ?

@ no one: Don't be creeped out -- that quote was just too good and deserved "top billing" in the post itself. Sort of a comment getting a promotion. :) After all, given the bad press over the years did you ever expect to hear a quote like that about the Capitals' home? Beautiful.
