First-period Knee-Jerks

*Florida appeared to skate with carryover momentum from Friday night's Favor to the Caps in the game's opening five or six minutes. The Caps first geniune offensive flurry came from the first line, near the seven-minute mark, when the trio enjoyed three or four good cracks at Craig Anderson.

*A little bit of a four-leaf clover appeared to be in the 'Cats' zone for the Caps on Tomas Fleischmann's tally. First there was the failed clear, then Flash's whiff which he regained and outmanuevered Anderson to light the lamp.

*Nicklas Backstrom skated a staggering 9:46 in the opening frame, while Sergei Fedorov skated over eight minutes. But four Florida penalties -- including two substantial-time 5-on-3 kills -- had a lot to do with that.

*Thirteen consecutive penalties had been whistled against the 'Cats prior to Alexander Ovechkin's slashing infraction at 16:41.

*Cristobal Huet yielded some uncharacteristcally big rebounds, but it didn't cost him.
