Years from now we will all look back and realize what a player we were honored to watch for (at least) 41 games every year live. Savor the moment.

Does anyone have a problem with Dan O’Rourke, ref #42? To refresh you memory, he was the one to deny Brooksy of a goal tonight (I find it funny — ref at the goal pointed to the net, but O’Rourke was skating from the neutral zone to waive it off), he decided to count Carolina’s goal (WSH-CAR game). Speaking of a devil, last night very similar NJ devils goal wasn’t there. Even though goalie Thomas was frustrated in admitting that the puck did go in. Mr. O’Rourke was the one to give all the penalties to Caps in the game in Boston…I do understand refs ar humanbeing and they make mistakes, but 3 possibly (well, they were game deciding mistakes in 2 cases - gave Carolina a point and a win to Boston) game deciding mistakes against same very team? Our beloved Caps? I sent an E-mail to NHL… Needless to say, there was no response. I have an XM Radio and listen to XM 204 Home Ice at all times. They say NHL wants to see Caps in the playoffs. No, they don’t I was watching highlights on NHL Network — Brooksy’s goal wasn’t even there!!! I don’t even want to bring in O’Rourke’s “blindness” to Carolina’s penalties that he chose not to call. Yet on any TV or radio show they choose not to discuss officiating. But, unfortunately, that is something that decides our playoff chances. If we were to have one well earned point in Boston and Carolina was deprived of their not so much earned point againt Caps — we’d be a #3 seed right now. Don’t you think Mr. O’Rourke has way too much of a power? I will send a copy of this to NHL again. If they don’t respond, I will send it to my congressman and a senator. Their offices have to respond by law, and, since they had so much fun with meaningless NHL spygate, maybe they’ll do something with this as well.

I agree Igor, how many times in a game do you see the offical closest to the goal or infraction not call a penalty, but the back ref halfway down the rink. I think Laich’s goal should have counted because the ref nearest pointed goal. He could have waived it off immediately if he felt there was an infraction. The NHL needs to work on which ref can overrule another in situations like this.

  9. @ the non-goal call: that was the absolute worse call I’ve seen.

Never mind last night’s refs….when do we get Rooney again? He screwed us hard and deep in Boston with the penalties that put us down by 2 men for the balance of the game.
