If this isn’t writing on the wall for Kolzig, I don’t know what is…
What the guys on TSN said, this guy is a 30+ year old goalie who’s only played in 1 playoff series and is a bit shakey.
I don’t really think he’s an upgrade from Olie… I think Olie stays and this guy is part of another package for a bigger splash.
(more wishful thinking on my part probably)
IMO Huet is an upgrade over Olie. What is Huet’s contract situation?
I believe he is an UFA this summer (at the end of a 2 year he had with the habs).
Good news, see you later Brent Johnson.
Trade not a surprise. Surprise is that it’s from the east. Would have thought it would have been a western guy — Lalime or Khabi from Chicago or Rolostop from Edmonton. Good move nonetheless.
So we basically traded Sutherby for Huet? Give GMGM some credit there. That’s amazing.
A bonus for Huet….. he doesn’t have to change pads.
Don’t forget that 1) the Habs are up against the cap and Corey Price makes the rookie minimum. Huet would not take that and stay in Montreal. So they got something instead of nothing for him.
2)This gives the Caps the chance to see how he fits with this team before he becomes a UFA so they know whether or not they can sign him as a bridge between Kolzig and their young goaltending prospects.
I dont see the Caps ending the day with 3 Goalies on the roster, something else is along the line.
I hope Eminger gets moved.
Good trade. The Caps needed a reliable stop-gap in net before Neuvirth and Varlamov come up.
There is no down side to this trade…none. If Huet turns into Baby Huey, they paid a second-round choice (or, Brian Sutherby, if you will) to find that out, and they don’t have to think about re-signing him. If he can push the Caps into the top-eight, he could get a look as a “bridge” goalie between Kolzig and Macheslamovirth.
To get a goalie with his record over the past three years for a low-second round pick? Nice trade.
Caps arent going to carry 3 goalies down the stretch. Somebody, maybe Huet, maybe Olie, maybe BJ, will be gone by 3pm.
Maybe Kolzig goes to Vancouver to back up Luongo and is near his home.
Sergei Federov is a Cap!!!!
