Give yourself extra time to travel in for the Sunday matin?ɬ©e game between the Washington Capitals and the N.Y. Rangers. The game itself promises to be an exciting one–and decidedly worth the trip–but your commute into town may take a bit longer than expected.
First, for those riding the Metro Rail, maintenance will yet again force trains to single-track on the Red, Orange, and Blue lines from Friday night to Sunday night.
But those driving had best leave early as well, or at least be willing to pony up cash for a garage/parking lot spot: the Chinese New Year parade runs from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, so traffic and street parking around the Phone Booth will likely be tougher than usual.
Here are the street closings from a Washington Capitals Media Advisory:
Due to the parade, H Street NW between 6th and 7th Streets NW will be closed for the entire day. In addition, the following streets around Verizon Center will be closed during the parade, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
- I Street, N.W. between 5th and 7th Streets, NW
- 7th Street, N.W. between I and G Streets, NW
- G Street, N.W. between 7th and 9th Streets, NW
- 8th Street, N.W. between G and H Streets, NW
- H Street, N.W. between 8th and 6th Streets, NW
- 6th Street, N.W. between Massachusetts Avenue and G Streets, NW
With this PSA, we hope to help Caps fans arrive before the puck drops; bring soothing lozenges so you can heartily and full-throatedly boo Jaromir Jagr for the full sixty minutes.

Ugh! And I thought that my blood donation today would have covered my proverbial ‘pound of flesh’ for the Caps this week
) Jagr sux – let the hooting begin.
They should get a Chinese Dragon or two for the intermission on-ice entertainment.
