Punxsutawney Phil, Hockey Fan

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning–thus predicting six more weeks of hockey-friendly weather. Note that Phil’s weather-predicting rodent rival, Gen. Beauregard Lee of Lilburn, Georgia, did not see his shadow and thus predicted an early end to the Atlanta Thrashers’ season.

The Thrashers have been dead in the water since the season started and they will be until Don Waddell is dismissed; the only reason they look like they have a shot at the playoffs is that they play in the SE and with Carolina starting to recover and the Capitals playing the way they have since Boudreau took over, this should become a two-horse race.

I don’t like the Thrashers; as a Caps fan it’s probably better for me that they have such inept management but I still want Waddell fired because (1) he’s so inept it’s embarrassing (2) I blame him more than anyone else for the USA’s showing at the Torino Olympics and (3) As someone who lives in Atlanta I will never forgive him for drafting Braydon Coburn and robbing me of the chance to watch Dion Phaneuf on a regular basis.

  3. wacky night in hershey vs the river rats.

2 fights in the first 19 seconds, including the first NINE SECONDS into the game. Amazingly, it was not Robitaille (he was in the second fight).

Hershey takes a 2-0 lead after two.

Then gives up 2 PP goals in the third.

then scores two more goals and an empty net to win 5-2.

    crazy night.

Also, coffee mug night to go along with the one ST holders got before the season.

Meaning six more weeks of scarily warm weather for February? I’m still waiting for winter to begin.
