- Last night was Ovechkin’s fourth career hat trick, his first hat trick at home, and his second four-goal game — both of those occurring in the last 14 games.
- Last night was Ovechkin’s second 5-pt. game in the NHL.
- Last night was Ovechkin’s first +4 outing in the NHL.
- This morning represents the first time in his young career that Ovechkin leads the NHL in scoring.
- His 13 goals in January were the most he has scored in a month in his career.
- He’s already moved into 4th all-time among Caps in number of hat tricks scored (4). And he’s third all-time in number of career overtime goals.
- In six home games since signing his new contract he’s scored eight goals and added six assists.
- He has 19 goals and 30 points in his last 17 games.
Update: Per an NHL press release, “Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin, Nashville Predators forward J.P. Dumont and Montreal Canadiens goaltender Cristobal Huet have been named the NHL’s ‘Three Stars’ for the month of January.” Ovechkin was named the NHL’s first star for January, while Dument was second and Huet third.

With the lead he’s opened up on Kovalchuk and the injury to Crosby I think the Hart race it going to come down to Ovechkin and Iginla - before last night I would have favored Iggy, but now I’d have to give Ovie the edge.
Absolutely sick performance. Look forward to seeing him in the playoffs in the future.
The first star scored 4 against the third star. Guess AO earned those goals.
