  1. Another 4-point night for Backstrom, and quite the night for Russians on both teams (2G 1A each for Ovie and Malkin, GWG shootout goal & an assist for Semin).

    Once, for heaven’s sake!

Olie’s play really scares me. We should’ve had that one going away.

Pepper, that’s the way games against the Penguins often are. The Caps dominate play, have a few untimely miscues and lose the game. This one had the same feel to it.
That’s one of the reasons playing the Penguins is always frustrating. We either play really really well; or we suck the whole way through — either way the result is usually a close loss.
By some strange twist of Laing… the Caps came out on top this time. Nice :)

WOO HOO! C’MON GUYS GET EXCITED! I’m one happy camper. This was a crucial win in my humble opinion, everybody/every team must face their respective demons. Tonight, our Washington Capitals showed us, and more importantly, themselves that they are in fact a playoff calibre team. Great game guys!

Quintin Laing is awesome. I love the grit this guy brings to the team. He is an AHLer with the heart of NHL All-Star.

I agreed with pucksandbooks pregame analysis about the Caps facing the Penguins/Refs team. I really felt as if the Caps were facing two teams out there (too many chippy calls towards the Caps). For the Caps sake, Refs cant’t decide a shootout, hence the 2 pts tonight. Now I can sleep easy tonite.

You know, there is something special about coming to this web site after a Caps win to see those two cups of beer.

Way to go Caps. And way to outshoot your opponents by a two to one margin.

    Nicely done, Caps, nicely done.

Now, PLEASE kick the Leafs’ butts on Wednesday. An Ottawa fan like me could use a little good news right about now.

No one talking about AO getting the bad end of that attempted hit on Malkin. Malkin looked like he was set in concrete, and that was the first time AO’s body check didn’t look controlled. I think he just plain missed.

Sure, AO scored afterwards, but when he hit the boards I was thinking how he could have gone into the boards differently and broken his leg or worse.

The Caps aren’t paying AO $9M per year to injure himself needlessly.

I thought about what happened to Pat Peake as well when he came flying in, but I have to say the drive and effort behind that was awesome old time hockey style…

  12. For more on the game, John Buccigross of ESPN waxes rhapsodic about both teams:
