Old-time Table Hockey

With all the hockey nostalgia stirred up by the Winter Classic, you may enjoy this unusual and fascinating video of the 1971 World Table Hockey Championship; it includes an appearance by hockey author, Lester Patrick Trophy winner, and Madison Square Garden icon Stan Fischler:

For those who can't get enough table hockey, check out the United States Table Hockey Association (USTHA). Perhaps you can make it to their tournament in Las Vegas later this month, or to the Hartford Open in February, and relive those happy days of knocking around the puck with little plastic (or metal) men.

Anyone care to elaborate on the differences between playing table hockey and the Super Chexx game? I always viewed the table hockey game as more delicate, with its tiny wands, rather than the hearty grips of its bubbled cousin. Is there a separate Super Chexx league?

I agree with your Table hockey vs Bubble hockey assessment Pepper. Most bubble hockey games I've played devolve into frantic slapping around of the puck, like someone who spins the rods on a Foosball table rather than just flicking them to kick the ball. Whereas table hockey doesn't lend itself to randomly smashing the puck around.

I have no idea if there's a Super Chexx league, but if you find one please post it as a comment, thanks!

I have a spreadsheet of all table hockey tournaments using different games across N. America.

I am well-connected, travelling to Quebec, a hot-bed of TH, NY and elsewhere.

I live in N.Virginia, but am currently working and playing TH in my spare time (Benej, custom Coleco, Stiga & Chexx).

You're welcome to visit our website or contact me for more information. If anyone back in the Washington, DC area wants to get together and moreover wants to form a league or association, let me know.

I love playing all of those games. At the Wacovia Center in Philadelphia there are many Super Chexx games throughout the concourse. Anyone remember the Bubble boys commercials?
