TSN’s Dave Hodge jumps on board the Mike Green bandwagon:
Finally, thumbs up to the NHL’s newest great player you might not know. He’s tied for the league lead in goals by a defenceman. Two reasons you might not know him: he plays for Washington and his name is Mike Green.
He’s not Mike Green, who played briefly with Florida and the Rangers, he’s not Josh Green or Matt Greene or Andy Greene or Travis Green.
And Mike Green suffers for being selected in the same draft - in the same first round, mind you - as his much more famous Washington teammate Alex Ovechkin, but those who have taken notice of the Capitals’ turnaround under coach Bruce Boudreau are raving about the play of Calgary-born Mike Green and his 10 goals, two of which came yesterday against Ottawa, one against Martin Gerber and one against Ray Emery, but that’s another story.

Would have preferred that he had not slapped my Sens around on Tuesday, but credit where credit is due. Green’s got something going on!
More from today’s Washington Times:
“When we play a team — any team in the league — and they are doing their prescouting, they are talking about Mike Green at some point,” [Coach] Boudreau said. “Whether it be his power play, his skating or his ability to rush the puck, he’s getting better every game.”
And not too long ago, ESPN’s John Bucigross had some really good things to say about Green, including that he might be on Canada’s 2010 Olympic team.
