Congratulations to the Caps’ Mike Green, who was highlighted as one of yesterday’s Three Stars on NHL.com. He joins Ladislav Nagy (who had a 5-point night) and Ty Conklin (who saved the game for the Pens). Green’s effort was a great one, and he deserves the kudos.
Without a doubt, Green is making a name for himself, and many are taking notice. The Canadian Press profiled Green last month and noted his offensive prowess. His scoring touch has led him to be tied with Montreal’s Andrei Markov for goals by a defenseman as of today. Here’s to seeing more of Green’s success in the new year.
(Surprisingly, Sidney Crosby was not named as one of the night’s Three Stars, despite the gushing of most media outlets about his performance in the Winter Classic. This included WUSA9’s Brett Haber, who apparently feels that Crosby is the best player in hockey. Based on the amount of hockey coverage that WUSA9 provides, this comes as no surprise. Despite WUSA9’s airing of commercials featuring Caps players, it seems that Haber is unaware that Washington has a professional hockey team, and that the team has arguably the best player in Alex Ovechkin. However, I won’t be lamenting the oversight, as I’ll be enjoying some free wings today. Thanks to Mike Green and company for making this possible.)
