Correct and thanks for reiterating my point. Suts just “cracked” the line up of a top ten team. He will skate with Corey Perry and Brad May.

GMGM has had a decade of “next year” and I’m sick of this $#!t. We Caps fans are a forgiving bunch but a decade of “next year” under GMGM has amounted to what? If we don’t get Muckler as GM and Quinn as HC now, we will finish with 55 pts as per pace.

Hrmm.. Trade Brashear instead of Sutherby (the most common complaint I heard last night).
Brashear has a decent stick and skate ability. And we’d lose the only guy not to get nailed in the head (right Clark?) who will camp out in front of the opposing goalie. That’s why he was used on the powerplay too. And if the deal switched players we’d have: Laraque vs Sutherby. Yeh, that’d end well.

Theory #1: Clearing out a player to make space for Semin. Would be easy yet counterproductive to have 17 guys scratched each night waiting for injuries to create an opening, and if you send them all to Hershey (assuming they clear waivers — dangerous assumption for some players) then suddenly the Hershey guys don’t get any playing time.

Theory #2: Some team offered the Caps a deal of draft pick(s) + Eminger for a player; and this was the first step in making that trade.

Theory #3: Systematic corruption of Eminger resulting in a measure more drastic than sending the two roomies to their corners. (For an example, See: Flyers and sleeping with other players’ wives.)

Sutherby couldnâ€™t crack the lineup of the worst team in the NHL. And GMGM got a second round pick for him. How anyone can criticize this deal is beyond me.

Was not McPhee the GM who drafted Sutherby in the first place? Either McPhee drafted this player too high, or drafted a decent player only to mishandle him.

Ovechkin and Backstrom were no-brainer picks; what has the rest of GMGM’s drafting prowess begot? It’s always “next year”.

Yes, he was a first rounder. SEVEN YEARS AGO. Since then, he has done NOTHING to live up to that. Criticize drafting him so high, that’s reasonable. Otherwise it’s just the typical human response of over-valuing your own assets. But all assets depreciate.

Sutherby was a first rounder and was developing - he’ll do well in Anaheim and I wish him well. We traded him for a low second rounder and to make room for what? I agree with MulletMan - this probably isn’t a good deal for us and he’ll come back some day and clean our clocks like Zednick did tonight.

My initial reaction to this trade was WTF, but now I think I kinda understand the logic behind it. Who knows, maybe we’ll get the next Peter Bondra from that pick.

Suts was a grinder. If he scores goals it is a bonus. You also have to remember that since the Ducks are one of the top teams in the league, their draft pick will be very near the last of the 2nd round, so we basically traded Suts for a third round pick.

First of all, best of luck Suts. You do deserve better.
Secondly, Mcphee gives up a first rounder for a second round pick? You Flat Earthers do the math. As long as Leonsis allows McPhee his on-the-job training, the Caps will always high draft.

So, we trade a heart and soul player for a #52-60 pick in not next year, but the ‘09 draft. Sorry, but this trade does not make any sense to me.
Suts was one of the players that I noticed going into the corners and fighting for the puck alot. It will be interesting to see how this makes the caps better.

Is this team REALLY going to miss him? Don’t they have a bunch of other players that are almost interchangeable with him? (Gordon, Pettinger, Laich, Bradley, Clymer, etc.)

I fully expect him to blossom, under quality coaching and management, to a 15-goal scoring, formidable shut down forward.

And I hope McPhee isn’t the one to select that pick in 2009.
