A picture is worth a thousand words - if there was a voice over it could be the Fire hanlon chant…
sigh
Hey, I know that guy!!!
I guess some people heard me in the stands last night. The chant was a little louder near 105 but there were some people chanting right behind Hanlon.
I was very dissapointed in Cap fans last night. One minute chanting FIRE HANLON, and PLEASE DONT SUCK!(beginning of 3rd period)and then cheering for goals. I dont believe Hanlon should be fired but I think it might happen sooner then later. But dont blame the coach. I think we should look at the underachieving of pass happy Kozlov and Nylander who if either had an open net would pass to someone else. Kolzig said its not the coach but the players effort. If your gonna boo and chant be consistent, dont jump back and cheer. Take Randy Quaids charachter in Major League.
I’m so proud to be a Capitals fan knowing that the paper bags are coming out now….
speechless
I too think it’s time for a change, but I really found the chants for Hanlon’s firing distasteful. Glen’s a good guy who’s given everything to this franchise. I just think he’s in over his head right now. If you want to scream at anyone it should be McPhee or Ted for not having the guts or intellect to make a move while this season was still salvageable. They’re the ones leaving Glen to twist in the wind and he deserves better.
Andrew:
I’m with you there. The game really sent me through a range of emotions only to be thoroughly upset at the end.
I also agree for the most part on Kozlov and Nylander (as you can read in my post about last night’s game), and I believe that I have actually seen Kozlov pass on an empty net a couple of times now when the goalie was way out of position. Sigh.
Another view of the same miserable fan.
For what it’s worth, I too like Hanlon and what he did with the team post-Cassidy. But the fans cannot survive another blow-up-the-roster at this point; something has to give, and it looks like Hanlon will draw the short straw.
In my opinion, Kozlov looked like he just did not care last night.
Everything just looked sloppy.
Changing the coach may or may not be the solution. But before the coach is changed, there had better be someone lined up to fill in. Do we really want our GM to do it as we’ve seen other teams do? Do you think Quinn or Hartley are so eager and ready to come here that it would be so easy?
Is firing the coach just change for the sake of change, to show they’re “doing something”?
It very well may be the right move, but I don’t leap off the same cliff as everyone else so eagerly without considering what comes with it.
But all that being said, it’s not the coach on the ice missing passes; passing when he should be shooting; taking stupid penalties (note how very few bench minors we’ve had this year); not covering his man.
There are a whole slew of players on the ice who should be getting blame first.
“oh, but the motivation…” Blah blah… What a crock. These guys are pros. If they can’t be motivated on their own, then the millions given them should do it. (One person I know calls it the Jagr syndrome, but I guess Jagr stating he gave up playing in DC was the coach’s fault too.) Motivation is what a coach gives during the timeout with 30sec left, not what a coach should give for the players to even show up.
That’s called work ethic.
The coach draws up the plays. The players implement. If they can’t do it because the play is too complex etc, then sure, that’s the coaching. If they can’t do it because the players cannot complete two passes in a row cleanly…
It’s great to see fans passionate. Too bad most of them don’t make that much noise encouraging the team when they do well as opposed to derideing when they don’t. Or do the fans need a better coach to motivate them?
I agree with the Andrew guy. I was at the cats/caps game and i was APPAULED to hear the “Fire Hanlon ” chants. If you truly believe he should be fired, fine. But then to cheer the team when they score? NO. Don’t chant against our team and then cheer only when they score. That’s not a fan. That is a fairweather fan. Sorry but it is. I wasn’t the only one with this kind of sentiment. I heard countless people on the train say the same. To quote one train passenger,” By chanting “Fire Hanlon”, the crowd tonight was the 7th MAN for FLORIDA and NOT caps. The players and coaches aren’t to blame but the fans are.”…I agree.
Plus note from the game, Semin. Semin and Fleischmann seemed to work well as too Semin with Backstrom. The line of Nylander, Kozlov and Fleischmann needs to NOT happen again because those are three playmakers aka passers, not shooters. Literally never shoot.
In the past seasons, when seeing poor play on the ice from the Caps, we have often boo’ed the Caps, and or shouted the question, why are we paying for this.
You state that chanting “Fire Hanlon” and then cheering for a goal is not being a loyal fan, but I disagree. This is a business and in business when things go really bad (and they currently are) changes have to be made. According to what I am reading from your post, if I am dissatisfied with anything about the team, I am not fan. Think about this, if I wasn’t a fan, then why in the heck would I be shelling out the dough that I am to have season tickets…
I pay good money to watch good hockey, and lately I have seen better coaching (line matching / pp setup), more determined play in the OHL and OHL tickets are $20.
I heard that Hanlon is unhappy with some of his lines and will be making more adjustments tonight, did he ever stop?
I respect your comment, i just disagree.
