Hockey Blows in Toronto

Many have said that hockey in Toronto blows. Now you can blame Michael Paul. With some rented equipment, video recorded evidence to be posted on the internet, and a sum of money to be donated to a local charity, Paul has created what he calls the "first ever leaf blower hockey game in the history of the world".

Leaf Blower HockeyPaul is a partner at a Toronto Ad Agency where the writers and executives thought this variation of street hockey would be a novel charity fund raising event.

The inaugural game was held this past Saturday with yesterday's Toronto Star describing the scene.
With an official band for inspiration (Air Supply) and an unbreachable code of conduct ("No aggressive blowing"), the inaugural game began yesterday morning at an outdoor rink at Bathurst St. and Dundas Ave. when the Windbreakers faced off against the Fallen Leafs. ("No harm intended to the other Leafs.") The game surface was slick with rainwater, not ice, but players from each team strapped on diesel-powered leaf blowers over their red and white jerseys, left their Tim Hortons coffee cups on the bench, and stepped up to do battle.
Paul and company are in the process of creating a website which will outline Leaf Blower Hockey rules.

Perhaps these guys can expand their cause with the latest craze.

Thanks to Lion in Oil for the assist.

Leaf blower hockey has indeed been seen before! I saw some of the Caps playing leaf blower hockey in the 1980s at training camp when it was held at whatever the rink is called (Fort Hunt?) a little south of Alexandria and near Route 1. The 'puck' was a beach ball as I recall.
