OrderedChaos Wedding

So right about now, my bride-to-be is walking down the aisle (thank you, WordPress, for providing the option to time-delay posts). Despite claims to the contrary by both Pucks & Gus, nobody will be liveblogging as there’s no wireless Internet connection at the wedding site.

My fiancée — wife, in a few minutes — is a big Elvis Presley fan. I dabble in Photoshop and, as you might have noticed, kinda like hockey. Here, then, are the images we’ve made for each table instead of using traditional table numbers. Each person’s seating card says things like “Roughing” or “High Sticking” to indicate where to sit rather than a number. Yes, we’re both geeks in our own ways . . . part of the reason I love her so. A sampling of the images is below the break.

I’ll return in a couple weeks. In the meantime, may your shots be true, your skating swift, and your hits heavy.

Elvis - Hooking Elvis - Charging

Elvis - Spearing Elvis - Roughing

Elvis - Boarding Elvis - Cross Checking

Elvis - High Sticking

  5. Congratulations!

This got me thinking: has there ever been an NHL player named Elvis? The closest I can think of is Jarome Iginla, as one of his middle names is “Elvis” (after his father).

As one of the guests in attendance, I am grateful to the hosts that I was not at the table that could have led people to accuse me of “hooking”

  9. Thanks for the kudos all!

Lucas, fun question. No NHLer ever had “Elvis” as a first name. There was a player named Elvis “Slim” Holdaway in 1938 on the Yorkton Terriers, and a few Elvises (Elvii?) in the German and Swiss leagues, but no NHL players.

“Slim” Holdaway was really Melville Holdaway, who played for the Flin Flon Bombers. Elvis Holdaway was his brother, who played for Yorkton.
They were my uncles, and both from Brandon Manitoba.
