If you’ve had a chum give you the business for the road atmosphere at Verizon Center during a Penguins’ visit, ring him right now and tell him to turn on Versus. The Leafs just scored again to go up 2-0 on host Buffalo. The crowd reaction is as loud as anything I typically hear in Air Canada Centre for something positive in royal blue and white. JoeB, calling the game, termed it “a house divided.”
Indeed.

It’s a house divided, but it’s also a profitable house divided as the Sabres charge their highest prices of the year which starved Leaf fans are willing to pay — especially now with their higher dollar.
I was just thinking that! I am loving those drunk sabres fans getting a taste of what it’s like to have your arena invaded…
Go Leafs Go!
….or is it Leaves? lol
The energy in the 3rd period of that game was nuts. The flood gates opened and then there were many goals.
1) Leafs fans go to Buffalo (and a lot of other road games) because it is impossible to get tickets here in Toronto. Buffalo is a favourite destination for travelling Leafs fans, since its only a two-hour drive south of here. Even before our dollar hit the roof, the Sabres (much like the Bills) actively courted Ontario hockey fans by offering “Par Nights” and stuff like that. They’ve always been a big part of the audience.
Now, why Leafs fans are actually willing to travel to watch their team play crap hockey is a bit beyond me, but such is the nature of the Leafs fans.
2) To my point above about crap hockey: the Leafs fans who did travel to Buffalo last night had the privilege of seeing Bryan McCabe score the winning goal–on his own net.
If you haven’t seen it, this is a thing of beauty: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=220709&hubname=nhl (be sure to check out the video).
This would be the same Bryan McCabe who tripped over his own net last week in North Carolina. He gets paid $7 mil a year, with a no-trade, no-move contract.
As a Sens fan, I think I may be loving this just a bit too much.
I have McCabe on my fantasy team… too bad the own-goal doesn’t count in his (an my) favor, eh? Feh.
