The Washington Times’ Corey Masisak has a good article today on Chris Bourque’s early start at the Capitals’ training camp.
“I think this year is a big year for me,” Bourque said. “I think I made some big steps last year from my first year. I am going to do whatever it takes to make it but if not go down to Hershey and do my best down there and see what happens.”

Im not really sure if Bourque has a place on this team. I think he will be in Hershey for another year.
If his last name wasnt Bourque would we talking about him at all?
I thought I saw Corey out there yesterday…nice to see the Caps getting a little preseason coverage as a break from the usual Skins lovefest.
I thought Bourque looked pretty good with the others. The goal was a nice touch - he is really small, though, and he’s only 21. I think one more year in Hershey maybe with a few callups this season and he’ll be ready to go.
Yeah, that’s pretty much what I think. He’ll play in Hershey this year, but will start getting callups for the first time.
I don’t remember who said it, but I seem to recall that at the time Bourque was drafted, he was described as being at least a four year project. (Of course, at the time they were probably thinking in terms of four years in college.) Well, that was in 2004, so he seems to be on schedule.
I like Bourque’s fire, but as CapsChick pointed out he’s only 21. Martin St. Louis, one of the most skilled “little guys” in the league, wasn’t an NHL regular until age 25. He didn’t score more than 20 goals until he was 28.
So there’s no rush, though I understand Bourque’s desire to advance. But I think it’ll be 2-3 more years before Bourque gets anything more than call-up duty. And that’s a good thing for the Capitals that their roster’s getting harder and harder to crack.
What d’ya think ’bout Justin Taylor. Great kid. 18 and improving quick. Great shot at Memorial Cup with London Knights this year. Could be a stealth draft pick. Good passer. Anyone remember Adam Oates?
