Almost all of Dan Steinberg’s dizzying prose talents are on display in this fantastic file. It reminds us of why we were so effusive in our praise of his work early last autumn and then expressed dismay when he abandoned our sport throughout the winter and spring. As you read the file, ask yourself this question: could its success have been achieved had its origins been in any ballpark or playing field other than the rink?
We think it’s a rhetorical question.
Anyway, it’s a gorgeous contribution at a puck-starved period in the calendar. May it be merely the Bog’s training camp in a season-long love affair with a subject eminently worthy of his talents.†

Kudos Dan! Great work.
Very well written, was very pleased when I read it.
You didn’t just express dismay during the winter and spring, you expressed dismay this summer when he showed up at the Redskins training camp. I still haven’t figured out just what was so heinous about his covering that. Because hockey is worthy of his talents, and football isn’t, I guess. I think that’s the sort of thing that could only offend paranoid hockey fans with chips on their shoulders. I understand that we all want more coverage of hockey, but I don’t understand why that means that a another sport that sports fans around the area are greatly interested in should not be covered, paricularly during a time when there is next to nothing going on in the hockey world.
Steinberg will be covering the Caps training camp this year, as he did last year. Should Redskins fans complain about that? After all, football will be in full swing then.
“…As you read the file, ask yourself this question: could its success have been achieved had its origins been in any ballpark or playing field other than the rink?

If the answer you are expecting is ‘no’, I don’t agree.
However, I agree it is enjoyable to see August coverage related to hockey or should I say two crazy Caps fans wedding plans in Steinberg’s blog and (although I have not seen it myself) I was told in the print copy of today’s Wash Post. Plus it is nice to read that the bride-to-be (assuming that is the same CapsCrazy) is pleased with the story.
Kudos to the Caps staff that helped two fans arrange the photo op at Kettler, as well.
And Comcast for showing clips from yesterday on Sportsnite.
