John Erskine - from WashingtoncCaps.comThe Caps today announced the re-signing of defenseman John Erskine to a two-year pact. Erskine, 27, missed almost 40 games last season with a fractured foot and a dislocated thumb, but the 6 ‘4, 216-pound rearguard brings some much-needed snarl to the Caps’ blueline. He plays a simple but effective game in his own end. His seven points in just 29 games with the Caps in ‘06-07 were a career best.  Â

Don’t mind the signing..considering the injury/depth problems on the dside of things last year not a bad move.
His physicalness last season also helped the caps. Looking forward to the positional battles at camp. Schutlz/Green/Eminger are really going to have to turn up the intensity.
Tarik reports that it’s a one way deal worth $525,000 in the first season and $550,000 in the second.
I like this signing — excellent value for much-needed toughness on the back line. I’d like to see him paired with Steve Eminger again; those two had real chemistry before Erskine’s injuries. That would be a pretty solid 5-6 pairing.
