#28 to San Jose for #41 and 2nd rounder in 2008. Nice deal by the Caps to get a 2nd rounder in a much better draft.

Tomorrow will be going a lot faster and the Caps have the 34th, 41st and 46th picks in the second round, so there should be plenty of things going on. Hope to see you then.

I am absolutely speechless. I understand that next year’s draft is deeper, but at some point we need to be worrying abut something other than stockpiling draft picks. This really makes no sense to me. We traded Zuby for this?
I’m sorry- I think this was a horrible move. Unless there is more to this than we’re yet privy to (Which I seriously doubt), the Caps should have gone for a quality player while they had the chance, especially with those that were still available. There may be more depth next year, but come on! We traded Zubie for THIS?
Make another excuse for GMGM… like he’ll pick a NHLer in the second round next year.
In 8 years only two NHLers on his resume… Suts and Petty.

I think you guys are overreacting just a bit. Did you see any current NHL players getting traded for draft picks AT ALL yesterday? It’s not like a whole lot of great trades were happening that McPhee was missing out on. I think this year’s draft picks just weren’t worth all that much to most teams, especially considering how all over the place teams were going with their picks. If there’s not much consensus on what the order is going to be, there’s not necessarily a lot of reason to trade up.

And which one of those guys do you think the Caps should have traded for? I think fans got themselves worked up into thinking that Eminger and the fifth pick would be enough to get someone like Marleau.
wthrw you can be making all the excuses you want but after all the losing the last years and GMGM’s and Ted’s loud-mouthed talking about wanting to be aggressive, about trying to add via the trade route first (how many times has this been repeated by Vogel) making the safe pick (= limited upside) and trading 1st rounders for 2nd-rounders next year simply is not enough
