The Bible of Billy Bob

Thrilled to no end by never-ending left-hand turns at high speeds? Pining for the release of ‘The Dukes of Hazard II?’ The front page of today’s Talledega Times, er, Washington Post Sports section will tide you over. Omitted in its coverage are directions to our local racetrack.

I don’t think criticisms of other sports as marginal interests is conductive to strengthening the position of hockey fans in the eyes of the Post’s editors.

  2. Dear false_cause: methinks you doth protest too much, insomuch as you naively believe that the Post’s editors give a rat’s ass about the thoughts, wishes, and whims of hockey fans.

I know they don’t. Consider then those who might tend to agree with their stance at the present time, but may be amenable to reason. Arguing from the same basis in which I suspect said Editors ground their disdain for hockey seem counterproductive.

In any case, I have a hard time faulting the weight of coverage given over to NASCAR today. I am offended that hockey is not covered there, a gross oversight, but both NASCAR items are not unfairly on the front page.

  4. Given that there was a NASCAR race in Dover ran Monday (almost a local event) and NASCAR’s long-time president died, I can see those stories warranting Sports page 1 coverage.

I’m not a NASCAR fan, but I see the newsworthiness of both items.

  7. The only complaint that I have is that “motorsports” are not athletic events, and therefore technically not sports in the traditional sense of the word.

But then again, where else in the paper would you put something like car racing? In Arts And Culture? I suppose those of us who appreciate actual athletic competition will just have to live with NASCAR in the sports pages.

Why hockey no longer qualifies is beyond me, though.
