I don't think it's a case of money; he will get maximum dollars. He does not like to lose. Marleau, if only for a year, would certainly be welcome. Question is --- what would San Jose ask in return? How can a Caps fan truly not love the guy, and not at least think about his return if he's available? I think it would cost more... I'd go upwards of 3 prime parts for him, though I think San Jose will be looking for established talent as they are very deep in young talent. I think I'd rather have Green or Fleischmann and whoever gets picked 5th overall for multiple years than Marleau for just one year, especially considering where we are the rebuilding process. If we do make this kind of trade this summer, I'd hope it'd be for something that fits a little better into the long-term plan. Unfortunately, that isn't the case - he hits his UFA status on July 1, 2008 so you are looking at one year of Marleau in trade and a contract that comes due at the same time that Ovechkin and Semin are due their raises.
