You've got it nailed. Ovie doesn't need a Gomez-type center (although I'd love to see him in the new red, white and blue), but a veteran center who knows how to dish the puck would be ideal. In a couple of years Backstrom should be ready for the #1 spot. This team is on the verge of being real good for a real long time. I know we've heard that before, but I really believe it's true. It's just tough waiting.

I'm going to continue to support the signing of the Alaskan native Gomez, whatever it takes. Top line center, multiple name engravings on the Cup. The center position seems most crucial to me.

Certainly try to trade away a package of prospects deemed not destined for the Caps, and draft picks if necessary, for a Dman, but get that top center any way you can. We got plenty of cap room to do it, now and in the future as well.

I can't wait for this damned draft!

The Caps are going to stay away from big money, long term contracts, if at all possible, on the FA market. They have to have the room to resign the existing stars in the near future. If a large contract goes out, it's for 1 year, 2 at the most. The big three centers and any of the big FA d-men will want time and money and the Caps won't go there. GMGM has previously stated that AO doesn't need a top market center to be good.

Yeah, you're right. But I'm still dreaming of a top line of Ovechkin-Drury-Zubrus.

There never seem to be much action with RFAs these days in the nu-NHL. Trades though is the likely option. Caps do have plenty of propsect depth to use as coinage. I just want smart trade and and not knee jerk ones. I think the caps will be more aggressive this off season but I think some will be dissapointed thinking they'll be mondo acquisitions.

Am I way off base in wanting the caps to sign Gomez from jersey? I just think he'd be nasty on this team.

But I do like the Restricted Free Agent route, cause we have a ton of talent that we wont be able to call up (Klepis for one) and some vetrans who need a change of venue (Beech/ Sutherby -- I'm dreaming I know). So a trade may be the way to go.
