A Call To Change More Than the Uniforms

We don’t care what Bob McKenzie at TSN alleges about Gary Bettman’s job security; it’s long past time to convene an evaluation committee, perhaps comprised of some members of the league’s Board of Governors and some current players, and assess whether, going forward, the NHL has the right guy at the helm.

And if you need a rationale for the urgency of this matter, peruse this.

Anyway, we want to know what our readers think. Assuming there’s impetus enough for change — sooner rather than later — who’s your guy (or gal)?

Who should be the next NHL Commissioner?

I don’t really have a response, but the woman in my office worked with Bettman in the early 90’s when she was at the NHL. She’s not bad looking either.

But when she does her Bettman impression, she’s maybe the ugliest woman on earth. In other words, her impression is dead on.

No matter who it is, it should be someone who believes that the key to success and growth as a league is to first keep the ones you have happy and allow them to spread the gospel of hockey for you.

I know its human nature to remain nostalgic about “the golden age,” “the way it used to be,” or whatever we remember the game to be when we first fell in love. But the philosophy should be to heed the desires of the sport’s core, loyal audience.

    That’s my self-serving, heavily-biased opinion.

I tried to add Paul Tagilabue but it wouldn’t let me.

I just want to say that I think that the NHL should once again look outside itself but away from the NBA and the disaster that is MLB.

Too many of the people currently surrounding the game have too many competing agendas to be an effective commissioner.

[OFB Update: We've manually added your write-in vote for Paul Tagliabue]
