Whooo. Ugly. Hopefully you were watching a different game. Or studying. Or working. Or something. In the interests of good taste, we’ll keep the knee-jerks short this morning.
- Lawrence Nycholat had his worst game as a Cap last night. Has he turned back into a pumpkin, or is this just a bump in the road? Too early to say for now, but that was a real dog he played in Sunrise.
- Shaone Morrisonn continued his recent poor play. Alert Caps fan sk84fun suggests that Morrisonn may still be feeling the lingering effects of his earlier bout with mono, and that’s an interesting observation. Whatever it is, something seems to be up with the guy who is usually considered the Caps’ steadiest defender.
- Ups to Matt Pettinger for his excellent short-handed goal.
- The Caps made Stephen Weiss look very good last night.
All in all, a forgettable performance by the team. Tuesday’s opponent, the Ottawa Senators, seem to have turned it on as of late. The Caps will need to tighten their game to avoid a similar result as tonight.

The Panthers made a point of dumping and chasing, then forechecking Nycholat hard. They definitely took advantage of his small stature. It will be interesting if other teams adopt this strategy and what he will do to adjust.
Capital Fanatic
I dont even look at Nycholat as a big factor in the game. The whole team sucked. I didnt see one player who had a good game.
Last nights game was a joke.
Look on the bright side everyone – after last night’s stinker of a game (and 5th straight road loss), with Phoenix and St. Louis both on a little roll, we could be in store for a lottery pick in the draft this year! Time to break out Central Scouting mid-season rankings :/
The whole team was lethargic, not one player stood out as having a good game. I think some talks need to occur. If the coaches are going to let the team leaders lead then a team meeting is necessary to stress the importance of these points.
With all the Hockey Day stuff, I completely forgot to watch any of the caps game.
apparently, I made a good decision.
i’m starting to see a theme on the hockey blogs these days. before game: “oh, the panthers, they’ll be easy.” after game: “damn, the panthers whooped us shamefully, didn’t they?”
maybe everyone- fans and teams alike- needs to stop underestimating the panthers. they seem to have a talent for embarrassing the overconfident.
cool, a mention in a blog
Like you note regarding #26′s play, my guess is he rushed back from his bout with mono given the lack of Caps depth on D at the moment; it sounds like it took them awhile to diagnosis things correctly (not good), but he missed very little time and I imagine lost some weight, strength, conditioning.
“forgettable performance” is correct so like you, I will wait to judge #3.
next opponent: Ottawa on the road; hopefully, they show up and play and make this one worth tuning into.
