I turned to my friend (a die hard fan) and asked what that was all about; whatever the reason it didn't make a lot of sense. I find it a tad disrespectful at the Orioles games but can somewhat understand. At a Caps game? I do not. All I can do is to face the flag and pay tribute during the anthem the way I was raised, with complete respect, and hope that others do the same.
