Knee-jerks: @ Philadelphia, 12/09/06

(Caps color announcer Craig) Laughlin mentioned that the Flyers had switched to a new forecheck system (one guy forechecking, two in the neutral zone reading passing lanes), and the Caps were bamboozled by it in the first period. Their passing looked terrible.
Johnson didn’t have a particularly strong game, but Niitimaki made that a moot point — the Laich goal was Mr. Stay-Puft-style soft (bled in between arm and blocker, off-side).
Eminger looked poor, Erksine ‘eh’, and Green looked very good. Then he took a puck up the shaft of his stick into his throat, but haven’t heard anything else about it, so I assume it’s not bad.
Laich continues his resurgence. I’d hate to think he’s just a slow starter, but it looks that way.
Clark had several clever defensive plays, and a hard-working goal. Best trade of GMGM’s career? It’s on the short list, IMHO (with the Morrisonn deal).
The Flyers were game, credit to them as much as I don’t like them. Too many injuries, some strange officiating, and less-than-stellar goaltending did them in.
Kris Beech’s assist on Muir’s goal really showcased his strengths — ice vision and passing. Nice goal by Muir.

Follow-up: Apparently Johnson is nursing a sore groin, which explains his so-so game (and makes the win all the more impressive).
