Long-time Caps Equipment Manager Doug “Sluggo” Shearer has been replaced, and at least one more member of the equipment staff may be gone as well. Today the Capitals’ web site lists Brock Myles, recently the equipment guy for the Portland Pirates, as the team’s new Head Equipment Manager.
Shearer’s service to the Caps dates back to the early 1980s and the Bryan Murray regime, and his long-standing commitment, joined by the timing of this news, has already evoked some startling speculation about the circumstances for this development.
Shearer was so highly regarded that he served as Equipment Manager under Ron Wilson for the United States Olympic hockey team at the Salt Lake City games in 2002. He also served the United States in 2004 at the IIHF World Championships.
2:20 p.m. update: OFB received this message from Caps’ Director of Media Relations Nate Ewell: “I can confirm that Brock Myles is now our head equipment manager.”

I think it is a sad day for Caps fans, bt kudos to Nate for responding to our questions.
I know its not related, but I f*%&ing hate shootouts (especially when we don’t win them).
It’s a very sad day when a 20+ year employee is let go because of a bunch of BS that has no basis of truth. Sluggo has been on of the best and loyal employees of any company I know. Just what is Teddy thinking of???????? One of the dumbest moves I have ever seen, especially in mid season.
Kudos to the Caps front office!!!

Do you know the circumstances of the change? Were you there?
We have reason to believe that the situtation was handled appropiately. Then again, we weren’t there either.
Yes, I do! and the circumstances as of late have proven him right. Who is “we” anyway? The situation was completely mishandled!
Yea i know it was mishandeld. i am his nephew and i think its total bs.
The circumstances and the TRUE story of this situation are developing and surfacing. It is Shameless what this organization, and those involved did to such an honest, loyal, and dedicated man. Now is not the time, but those responcible will realize their error. The teams performance has; 16 w 24 L since 11/7/06. Also, more discussion of players losing edges and falling, hmmm.
Yea, Im his son. It sucks, we are poor now.
And hey other N/A
I see that Doug was hired by the Portland Pirates.
