Shinny on the Reflecting Pool this winter?

Will downtown be a playground for puckheads in a few months’ time?

This week five important barometers of weather prediction weighed in, with four of them offering up hockey friendly forecasts.

First, the bad guys, NOAA — the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. They say we’d skate in puddles if we tried: “The outlook calls for a mild winter for most of the nation.” Who ever heard of fun eminating from the government anyway?

The rest is blizzard bliss. From Accuweather: “Colder temperatures for the Northeastern U.S. and Midwest, and a milder winter for the West Coast.”

Old Farmer’s Almanac: “Below normal temperatures, on average, in much of the country. Snowfall will be above normal in most areas.” We at OFB likey — shinny by morning and afternoon, warm up with hockey sweatered companions by night.

Farmer’s Almanac: “Shivery is not dead. [I love that!] Our winter predictions are pointing towards widespread cold from coast to coast.”

The last forecast apparently comes from a Pennsylvania caterpillar. Swear. If winter is going to be mild, his stripes are thick. Last weekend, when folks checked in on him, they weren’t.

Let it Freeze! Let It Freeze! Let It Freeze!
